BOOK WORKS ANNOUNCES GAVIN EVERALL AS THE NEW CO-DIRECTOR OF BOOK WORKS, PUBLISHING

Book Works announces today that Gavin Everall has been appointed the new Co-Director of Book Works (Publishing), taking up the position alongside Rob Hadrill in September when Jane Rolo departs. Jane Rolo has been the Co-Director of Book Works (Publishing) since founding the organisation with Rob Hadrill, Co-Director (Studio) in 1984, together leading Book Works for the last 35 years.

Gavin Everall (b.1968) has been Editor, Marketing and Development Manager of Book Works since 2006. Previously he was Sales and Marketing Manager at The New Press (2004–06), Sales and Marketing Director at Verso (2001–04), and Bookshop Manager at the Serpentine Gallery (1992–2000).

Whilst at Book Works, he has been responsible for over thirty publications and projects. These include working closely with Bouchra Khalili on The Tempest Society (2019), Ruth Ewan on Twenty Thousand Nights: A Communist Life by Nan Berger,(2017), Stewart Home on the series Semina (2008–18), Nina Power on Common Objectives (2013–18), and Clunie Reid on G.S.O.H, The Rest is Dark, The Rest is Dark (2015). He co-edited the publication Again, A Time Machine (2012) with Jane Rolo. He initiated the public programme Existential Territories (2008–09) and regularly lectures and leads workshops for Book Works.

Jane Rolo says: ‘Having founded Book Works in 1984 with Rob Hadrill, the organisation has played a huge part in my life for the last 35 years and stepping down was never going to be an easy decision. However, I couldn’t be happier that Gavin Everall has been appointed as my successor. In the years spent at Book Works he has proven his commitment to the values and vision of the organisation, and has longstanding experience of working with and nurturing artists at all stages of their careers. Gavin has been a wonderful colleague, a kindred spirit, and I am certain Book Works will continue to flourish under his directorship for years to come.’

Gavin Everall says: ‘I am delighted to be appointed as the new Co-Director at Book Works and to work alongside Rob to continue commissioning artists’ book and printed material, giving a platform to emerging and diverse artists. Book Works has a very special place in the art world, having played a crucial part in the success of a number of curators and artists, and secured an international reputation for the work it does. I will continue the amazing legacy that Jane established and take Book Works on into a future of dynamic and exciting projects and commissions.  I am greatly looking forward to working with the staff, Board, artists and designers, and our supporters and audience, without whom Book Works would not be able to realise a new programme of publications and public events.’

Isadora Tharin, Chair of Book Works Board of Trustees, says: ‘We are delighted to be welcoming Gavin as Book Works’ new Co-Director. His in-depth knowledge and solid experience in relation to artists’ book publishing will enable the organisation to build on departing founding Co-Director (Publishing) Jane Rolo’s magnificent legacy. As a board we are excited at the prospect of working with Gavin and are confident that alongside Rob Hadrill as Co-Director (Studio) he will lead the publishing arm of the organisation with energy and integrity in new directions, while honouring what Book Works has achieved in the previous 35 years.’
